Hey guys - thought I share something...
How would you like to go from this
...To this?
I'm sure some of you have the same issue I had - couple minor scratches in the PlexiGlass from either the place you picked the Display case up from, or while moving...you name it. I had one pretty bad scratch in the front door of my double wide, and it has bothered the hell out of me for a while now. Today, I got rid of it...Yes, there are PlexiGlass buffing kits out there...but it is much easier then that...
Go to your local Autozone or PepBoys and buy some "Mothers Paint Scratch Remover"...yes, the stuff for the cars. As on paint, it works as a fine rubbing compound on the Plexi. Those of you who have experience detailing a car, know how much to use. For the others, one word of advice... "A Little Goes A Long Way". Put about a pea size (see pic below) on a dry towl and start rubbing the scratch with minimal elbow grease..just easy. Go up and down, side to side, and circular motion. Then get a clean towl and wipe off. Voila, if it is not totally gone, it looks a hell of a lot better than before. If you are still not satisfied, repeat what you have just done. Sometimes scratches take 2-4 passes before they 'disappear'. (NOTE: Do not expect gouges in the glass to disappear, not going to happen. It might make them less visible, but this is not a 'filler')
Also, as a great way to minimize visible scratches on plexiglass, make sure to use Plexus Pexiglass cleaner. (Can be found in Motorcycle stores or go to ebay and type in 'Plexus' - several auctions going right now.) Most of you probably use 'Windex' or similar products, but Plexus does not just clean the glass, it also puts a protective, non-greasy film on the glass to keep it look nice...very helpful on those shelves since moving pieces around creates little hairline scratches in the glass...Just a suggestion.
I have used both products for many years now on vehicles and swear by them. I just got the results I wanted on my Doublewide door and figured I pass it on.
Here is what you need:
Also, I guess if you want to go all nuts on it, get your car buffer with a polishing bonet on it, and go to town for some high gloss...Patience is the limit!
Enjoy and Good luck!
Ollie
*Disclaimer: I am by no means responsible for you screwing up your plexiglass on the case due lack or knowledge, too much compound, etc. I did it and it turned out as expected. Do at your own risk.
