I was under the impression that only what was shown under Oakley's RX lens page on their website was what we could get for RX lens tints. Today I walked into my local optometrist that's an authorized Oakley dealer just to ask if they could by chance get either Ruby Iridium or Emerald Iridium Polarized for RX lenses. Surprisingly, he pulls out a sheet showing all of Oakley's lens tints, the same as what's on Oakley's website that shows their entire lens tint range, and said "we can pretty much get it in any of these colors". All I could say was "oh" as an evil grin started appearing on my face, thinking of + Red Iridium being placed into any one of my five different Juliet frames...*shiver*. But before I get too excited, does anybody know if optometrists that are authorized Oakley dealers have the ability to ask for any lens tint from Oakley, or was the guy just pulling stuff out of his rear end? He never did strike me as a guy that knew Oakley too well.

I think if you want to pony up the cash and it's available, they will do it...Emerald Transitions, + Red, whatever...Pink Iridium, Violet?? All options, it would be sick for sure!!

jumpman: Fire Iridium wouldn't be a problem for sure as it's on Oakley's RX lens list: http://oakley.com/technology/rx/. This is the list that I thought prescription lenses would be locked to, and that we couldn't choose from the full list of colors available. My optometrist is making me think otherwise though, which was why I was wondering if anybody else had any insider info on what lens tints are really available for RX lenses. So far I've gotten Black Iridium, Ice Iridium, and two G30s. I have one Juliet X-metal frame left that I want to put prescription lenses into, hence why I was really hoping either Emerald Polarized or Ruby or + Red could be done, any of these would look sharp with X-metal. If we could have been choosing from the full list all along, I would have done the red based ones LONG ago though.

I'm not too sure. Could be a case of the guy overestimating what he can really have done. I was under the impression that the Rx list is the definitive list for options.

Repeating Dann a bit, I think the guy may have overshot what can be done. Is he even aware there are things like Violet Iridium? Just think, if you're the only person who ordered Violet Rx in a rotation they'd have to fire up the Iridium machine for one pair of lenses (I assume). I wouldn't be surprised if you could get +Red; I would be surprised if you got Ruby, Violet, and many of the high transmission/Iridium combinations (Ruby Clear, H.I. Blue etc.)

/end speculation

Pursue it anyway, and see what they tell you.

Vertigo-1? the same Vertigo-1 i know from another forum? :)

repeating what Dann and EC said, i think your OPD is overshooting the lens options available. last i checked with my OPD, there was a limited amount of lens options available, and it mirrors this list:

http://www.sportsvisionbend.com/cgi-bin/sportsvisionbend.storefront/4580503a005d5172273f4227b6220629/Catalog/2286

as for the OPD themselves, they don't make or cut the lenses, it's all done at HQ, and the whole package is sent to the OPD where you pick it up... at least that's what happened with my last pair of Oakley RX.

hope this helps.

Bong, yes it be me. :-) Can't believe it took me this long to figure out how to get into this forum too. Thanks everybody for all the info, I guess when I'm ready, I'll just give it a shot. Probably try to shoot for + Red Iridium first. From the list on Sports Vision Bend it seems at least Emerald Iridium Polarized is a sure bet, which I certainly would be happy with.

True! Other lens manufactures can make lenses that might look similar to Oakley lenstints. The Zeiss Reflet lenses I have in my ChopTop, for instance, look like Ruby Clear.
I've never managed to get any other lenstint except the ones on the list to be done RX.

I believe you'll find he's offering you lens tints that LOOK like the Oakley non-Rx stuff but aren't Oakley.

See all Edwin's (eyeye) Zeiss stuff, for example.

eyeyeye, thanks for the list! A few more options than the U.S. list, but it seems like the trend for even that list, like the U.S. list, is towards more conservative lens tints. None of the more aggressive, coveted colored ones make it on to the list like Blue, Ruby, +Red, Emerald Slate, 24k Gold, etc.

Well I'm glad at least Emerald Iridium sounds like a definite, all things considered I certainly wouldn't mind X-metal/Emerald Iridium Polarized.

I have a pair of the emerald transition bottlecaps I'll probably sell off in due time, They were done in Plano (non-rx) for me by O-Madscience.
