I own an oakley juliet ruby red lens. Unfortunately, the lens have visible scratches. I contacted the Oakly Japan if they have replacement lens available. I found out that they no longer replace lens, instead they could repair the lens. But their stock of ruby red coating is not so red but the iridium is more yellow. The cost is 12,600 yen inclusive of tax. I would like to seek your advice if it practical to have my lens coated or just buy a new lens maybe change it to fire iridium. I trust the wisdom of our oakley godfathers to give me some advice.
yeah, way weird to me also, and "stock or ruby iridium"??? what is that about? just ask a us member for help, we can assist sometimes in locating things, or try usa hq
I also never thought that iridium coating is possible. I was thinking of replacing my lens but it no replacement is available. But I learned this from Oakley Japan. Does anybody from Oakley USA or any dealer from this group who knows about this ruby red iridium coating technology?
To recoat a lens, you'd have to decoat it first. This would make it more expensive, I think, than just coating a plain lens. I think it's all a misunderstanding.
apparently oakley themselves can do a "surface polish" which takes care of light scratches, one of my colleagues had it done through the oakley rep who dealt with the store I used to work in
Thanks OluvrNawlins for the pics.... Guys, which is then more expensive, to coat it or buy a new one? Or change it to other lenses, e.g. fire iridium. Here in Japan it cost 12,600 yen or 100+ for the coating. Do you have idea how much is the a ruby red lens or fire iridium replacement lens?
$60.00 for Fire Iridium. You can contact Oakley US and see if they can hook you up with the Ruby's. You're in Japan so it might be a bit difficult, but it's worth a shot and see what they say.
I am skeptical about repairing of scratched lenses. Basically, if you do not strip the coat and instead jump straight to re-mirror the lens, the scratches will just show up in a more nasty way. Also that is assuming the scratches only affect the mirror coat and not the base lens.
