The MP-E 65mm Macro lens

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-MP-E-65mm-1-5x-Macro-Lens-Review.aspx

Spiders are found everywhere. Most of these are very common, just have to look for them.

Nice Dann! The spiders were kind this year. I haven't had time to do much shooting this year, and when I have, it's been all sappy family stuff.

Both of you guys... Nice work!

Dann what kind of Macro lens are you using again?

Two mainly. The EF 180MM f/3.5L Macro is good for larger insects like butterflies and dragonflies. It works as a portrait lens too.

EF180mmf35LUSM_hood

Then for deep macro, I use the MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro. It gets in deep, but can't take pictures of anything bigger than 3.5cm (2.4 on crop)

Macro Setup

Then sometimes I'll use the EF 300mm f/2.8L with the 2x TC II to get some sort of macro shots. Decent for far away objects, but also some closeups when needed.

The MP-E 65mm stays mounted on the 40D, and the 5D II swaps between the rest of them. Usually a nature outing will be the macro setup and the 300m + 2x. Gives me a good mix, and I'm not swapping lenses.

Woww !!

Nice setup fella.

Surprised you got em mounted that way round, thought the crop on the 40 would lend itself to reach with the 300 and the extra frame would give you more on the macro.

Stunning pics though, Im about to swap my 40d for a 7d so I can get decent video and faster stuff for motorsport events.

In the setup above I have the 300 on the crop 40D for reach and the 180 macro on the 5DII for iso reasons. To be honest crop doesn't make all that much difference unless you're on the wide end. 300 vs 420 isn't as big of a change as 24 vs 38. More often I just leave the 1-5x macro on the 40D since I don't need to use high iso due to the flash. The 5DII is just fine at 1600 so that gets the most use.

The 7D looks awesome, wish I could get it. Seems to be a better successor to the 40D than the 50 or 60D.

Yep,

The 50 never really struck me as an upgrade and all reviews that I read actually said the 40 gave better images. And as for the 60 - if I wanted a small plastic camera then I would buy the Xoo series Canon and save myself alot of money.

For me the 40d was a sweet spot in that range, the 7d was kind of a decent halfway house aimed more for sports between a Xo range Canon and a 1D and the 5D was the full frame slightly more grown up option that bit above the 7d.

I actually thought the 7d was slightly under priced and the 5d overpriced, but when they brought out the Mk3 I think its spec actually warranted its price-tag perfectly, ironically they also put the price of the 7d up a tad at the same time !!

Very clever these Japanese types !!

Nice photos bud, shame you're a sick f*** and love those eight legged demonic little bas***s but other than that good job !! lol

Hah. The 5D 2 is actually pretty affordable and still rock solid if you want full frame
