David, what you have is a switched out Mumbo frontframe with a subzero earstem. If you check the picture, there is no hammer in the stem, and i remember doing this myself with some of my old ( and gone ) mumbo's. even in an add of a subzero, they re-switched the original earstems with mumbo hammerstems , i have the add, but don't know how to upload it

Actually I didn't notice the lack of hammer. That would make it a Baseball specific M Frame, and officially not a Mumbo. But an odd piece you don't see often, so still special.

They did the same to the Radar.

I had a deal with Oakley when playing baseball. These to my knowledge were not offered to the public. They were specifically for me because, I was loosing the ball in the Metro-dome. The glasses and case you have are directly from the Oakley Rep. for Major League Baseball. I finally adapted to the ceiling and never used them. Over the off-season that year I was traded back to the Mets. Never had a need for them any longer. You should have seen all the Oakley's I once had.(and that case) that held 6 or 8. Yeah, I figured they were availble to the pulbic. Darren doesn't seem to be really "into" Oakley. He got them for free after all. He sent me another e-mail regarding these and the extra lens he sent me.. Told me he was wearing that extra lens in the glasses when he hit a grand slam. Still cool. Anyone know where I can get a Cerificate of Authenticity for him to sign?

can i get someone to clarify the difference between mumbo and m frame. Ive read this thread and getting confused. Ive got several frames with the classic 'oakley' wording on the frame, all with the original hybrid lense. But I have colours not mentioned here. I have a solid dark green type frame with classic logo and the blue/grey splatter with classic logo and crystal clear/bluey with classic logo. I also have frames with just the 'o' in solid silver (not metallic), solid black. All the lenses are gen1 hybrid in black iridium, persimmion, black. All the frames have hammer stems.

As Lee said, the only Mumbo frames were Black, White and Neon Yellow. Neon Yellow is the only guaranteed Mumbo, since Black and White continued past the renaming to M Frame.

The ones you listed would all be M Frames anyway, with the classic logo's being Gen 1, and the Icon ones being Gen 2. Also the hinges are strengthened on Gen 1, plus fangs were added that extend beyond the ear socks.

As a quick rule of thumb, anything with the original logo (pre 94) should have no laser etching on the lens, the blue frame you refer to sounds like one of the splatters, so thats fine, as does the Crystal Blue, but I have a concern about the dark green and silver frames you mention, and sadly think that they could be fake, as they didnt release those colourways.

Mumbo was only the intended original name until the clothing company Mambo thought it sounded too close to there name brand, so Jim decided to change it to avoid any issues.

Lee, yeh Im feeling that vibe too on the silver and green frames, they have a blue iridium lense and black lense, both with the etching, so Ive a feeling the lenses are cosha, but the frames are duff. Ive had these for years tho, so cannot fathom it out....mmmmm

Another easy way to tell is that they are not made from the original Virgin Serilium, but a cheaper form of plastic, so they wont feel as pliable (especially at the end of the earstem if you gently bend them)

no the feel feels the same. the hinges are slightly tighter, but thats coz i never wore them...they both have the o icon only and the ear socks feel soft like the others not hard....im gutted, i think you are right, but after so long its a bum....so now to get rid of them!
