when you say fully red lens do you mean like say red is zero and 24K is on the negative side and +Red is on the Posative side, where as with zero red is absolute and undiluted by either extreme, Like this

Hey that's awsome work Cal. You could teach a course on this stuff! How come the fire/ruby lenses keep gettin lighter with each new gen? I doubt it's based on demand since almost everyone seems to prefer the older (redder) versions. Is Oakley cutting corners to reduce production cost?

Does it have something to do with them reducing the baking time to prevent high levels of failures maybe?

When the Ruby Juliets were released before the first X-men movie hit, they were priced at $300. When the movie hit, they went up to a staggering $400. I wonder what the Ruby Plasma will bring in.

Ben - when I say fully red, I mean without any rainbow effect (i.e. that blue/orange/yellow at the edges). The same way Ice is blue all across and Black Iridium is all black.

notice how the 2nd Gen FIRE and the current Ruby from Oakley is almost identical. I wonder how many people got away selling them as Ruby in ebaY.

another big generation change would be the BLUE IRIDIUM and my Ichiros would be a perfect example to show the difference. I will have to open a new thread for that.

Ruby plasma lenses might put an end to the Ruby nonsense going on over at Ebay. Honestly, what would make someone willing to pay upwards of $200 for a set of Ruby lenses? If there is an affordable, more readily available alternative, the Ruby era might be over soon.

It'd be nice to see a really red Ruby Plasma, but I'm not holding my breath. Oakley surely tried to make the Ruby Iridium lens red as possible well, so I can't say I have complete confidence that a cheaper, corner-cutting Ruby Plasma will be of higher quality.....but if anyone could do it, it's Oakley; here's having my fingers crossed.

I wonder if it would make a difference if they started with a reddish base like pink or G30.

Talking of base tints... what would happen if they started with a basic black/grey base and applied a few layers of red/ruby iridium (like on the ruby clear lens) might be a nice effect. What do you guys think? Can this even be done? It would look sweet in a Ducati Juliet frame.

I don't think it would be the end. The only outrageously priced Ruby lenses on eBay are for the Penny and the Juliets. If they do release Ruby Plasma I don't think it will be offered for the Penny and the Juliet, seeing as how Oakley seems to be decreasing the colourways on those models and are probably discontinuing them in the next couple years.

Unless the new X-metal models fit as well as the Penny and Juliet (and are as universally loved), the bidding wars will probably continue. The prices may even be driven up do to it being the only available method of getting Ruby Penny or Juliets.
