Well I couldnt figure out where to add this to the 'OFFICIAL THREADS' page, so i apologise if its in the incorrect place, but i thought id start a new thread purely for the vintage fans.

several of you know, that my collection is focused purely on pieces of oakley that is vintage and not so much of the more modern eyewear.

whilst there are many variaties of vintage sunglasses, such as the eyeshades, frogskins, mumbos, m-frames, zeros, sub zeros amd blades system, i was was wondering what is your favourite vintage pair or pairs and why?

i am sure there are many other members that view this great site, but dont post and thus have collections or great vintage items that myself and others have never seen, which would be amazing if they could be shared.

for me, i have a passion for the original mumbos, black, white and neon yellow, all with a variety of lense shapes including hybrid, 67 and strip.

i am lucky and proud, with the help of some amazing members, to now have the complete set of zeros and sub zeros, plus some extra 'rare' pairs such as the 0.2 glitter gulch/amber.

i also love the original 1st gen m-frames, especially the crystal and fingerprint and splatter frames.

so here are my favourite pieces:

my mumbos

my m-frame strip lense

all my splatter m frames

and my top three

so what are your favourites and lets share items from the past that started off things which have enabled us to be where we are today.

I actually always wonder when are they vintage. In the Tamiya scene we have the rule that at the moment the first 150 models are classified as being vintage.
But the for the O, do we look at a particular year or...?

I have pretty some models that surely classify as vintage. And the Zeroes series are my favorites by far. Especially my 0.3, 0.3p, 0.2 and 0.2p have a special place in my heart.

They have a really awesome design which you just don't see in any other glasses of today or the past. I think they also made Oakley to the make how we know it, they are really out of the box. Also the E-Wires are pretty cool with their "flat" stems, just different and that's what I love :D

My favorite Vintage piece: the 0.3.

Close behind, my Splatters, hoping for their missing brother Pinkie to join them:

Also, these Eyeshades. Had to drive 30 miles each way to get them for $50, but well worth the trip:

And this one just came in this week, really, possibly the one vintage piece I have in the best possible condition for something 20+ years' old:

all lovely stanley, it shouldnt take long to get the pink splatter to complete the set, but aswll as those splatter frames, its that fire iridium 'v' lense that stands out for me on those blue/grey splatters.

And are those V lenses really so rare? I've read about that 67 lens being much sought after? And what's with the 67 anyway? 1967?

well it depends what you define as rare, but the 'v' lense are certainly one of the original mumbo/m-frame lenses which are very sought after and one that dont tend to come up very often.its very similar in shape to the sweep, but it doesnt have the gap under where the lense joins the frame, so sits slightly higher on the cheek-which i quite like.

i personally tend to see many more 67 lenses come on the market than 'v' lenses.

as for why the 67 lense is called the 67 lense, im not sure, maybe someone with more knowledge can answer that one, but it was one of the three original lenses releases for the mumbo/m-frame, along with the hybird and 'v' lense.

other additions that came later were the strip lense, which is almost harder to come across than the 'v', the sweep, heater, strike and slash.

then to follow came the modern lense equivalents, but unfortunately none of the above, except for sweep, heater and the up date version of the hybrid.

a way you can tell of you have a first generation lense is that it wont have oakley etched on it, where as the second generation onwards had this.

I know they're not as old as other pairs, but I dig all the original Jackets, the Straight Jackets in particular.

Square Wires also hold a special place in my heart, none more so than the Leather Wrapped.

Ah, Ian, I also noticed that little black Moon you have right in front.
The pair between the Trenchcoat and the Moon, green marble look frame, that one looks very nice, really stands out and very unique.
My only connection with you here is my only Straight Jacket and my only Square Wire:

Just got a pair of New Eye Jackets, Black/Black Iridium polarized, in mint condition. I forgot just how good the EJ's feel on your face, especially with polarized lenses.

i'd like to see more vintage straight jackets. the leather square wire was possibly my best pickup since i started collecting (started not that long ago). i got it off ebay under original msrp, nib, 10/10 condition. the guy wasn't very clear on condition, but i bid anyways since he had a guarantee, i was incredibly happy when they arrived and inspected them to say the least. beautiful how Oakley managed to wrap those.

For sure. I feel like if they did nowadays, it's be a limited release and scalpers would jump on it, but dare to dream.
